Family Law

Family Law Perth

Our Family Law Department operates alongside the Court Department and is headed by partner Susan Wightman who has almost 30 years’ experience dealing in all aspects of Family Law and has been accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Specialist in Family Law since 1997. Susan is qualified as a Collaborative Family Lawyer and is a Notary Public. Susan is assisted by Partner, Sally McCartney who along with Susan is a Member of the Family Law Association of Scotland. Sally is also a Notary Public. Our main office is ideally located on Tay Street, just a stone’s throw from Perth Sheriff Court.

Susan and Sally are qualified to deal with all aspects of Family Law work in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session but also understand the benefits of looking at alternative methods of dispute resolution such as out of Court negotiation and settlements, Mediation or Collaborative Law. Separation and divorce can be an upsetting and stressful time, however our dedicated team have a wealth of experience and understanding of such matters and can provide legal and practical advice upon pre and post nuptial agreements, the personal, financial and legal aspects flowing from divorce and separation, upon parental rights, responsibilities and obligations relating to children such as residence and contact, maintenance for children or spouses, adoption, financial and personal matters flowing from separation between spouses, civil partners and co-habiting couples with and without children, and all matters relating to the legal aspects of a "family" breakdown.

Susan and Sally handle all cases from start to finish and pride themselves on proactively managing their cases with the necessary degree of empathy whilst providing solid practical legal advice.

Susan and Sally can give guidance upon funding of legal fees, vat and outlays in and out of Court under the Legal Aid Scheme, operated by the Scottish Legal Aid Board.
